Netball President Labels NCS Corrupt While Appearing Before ADHOC Committee

Day four of parliament’s inquiry into the activities of the National council of sports was uniquely emotional!

While appearing before the committee, Uganda netball federation’s president Sarah Babirye kityo broke down as she revealed her ordeal with the council. Babirye told the committee that NCS General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel has continuously frustrated her Federation’s activities by not complying with the set guidelines.

A bitter Babirye further alleged Corruption and bribing at the National Council of Sports mentioning illegal kickbacks demanded by some officials in the sports regulatory body.

Uganda Netball Federation western region Patron Gaffa Mbatekamwa asked the committee to ensureDr Ogwel step down from his role, for further investigations.

Federation of Motorsport Union led by Dipu Ruparelia, Uganda Athletics federation, and the Uganda Table Tennis association led by Robert Jjagwe are the other federations that appeared before the committee today.

The committee chairperson Hon. Laura Kanushu said that the federations have helped a lot in the investigation and believe they will get to the bottom of the issue affecting Sport

So far, Eight Sports federation representatives have appeared before this committee alleging several issues including corruption at the helm of the national council of sports, and iniquity in funds allocation, among other things that have affected their activities.

Investigations continue next week, with the committee expected to meet the ministry of finance and some federations of interest.
