On Sunday, April 23, Uganda Rugby Union held its annual general meeting, where the new executive committee was elected, including the president of the union.
Godwin Kayangwe was hence re-elected as the President of the Uganda Rugby Union for his second term, which runs up to 2027.
The incumbent beat Philip Kiboijana in the election, securing the majority vote of 65 votes, and his opponent only got 8 votes, which is not even half of what the President got.
In the other elections, the executive position was taken by the following members following the elections:
Eric Butime was voted as the new Vice President Technical 2023-2027 after he led with 49 votes; Peter Odong was voted as the Secretary in the 2023-2027 Executive Committee with 50 votes registered; Kennedy Mulindwa was voted as the Treasurer in the new executive with 40 votes; Prossy Nakakande was voted as the Women’s Representative on the incoming executive with 49 votes; and Hon. Andrew Oulanyah was voted as the URU VP Commercial 2023-2027 with 57 votes.
The delegates came from various rugby clubs in Uganda, including Rhinos Rugby, Hippos Rugby, Black Pearls RFC, and Impis Rugby, among others.
The new executive committee will serve the Uganda Rugby Union until 2027, when their term is expected to expire.
