The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has sent confirmation on the provisional Gazelles squad, comprising 19 players, to start training ahead of the Women’s Afro Basketball in Kigalia this year in July.
This provisional Squad has seen many National Basketball League players called up—up to 10 of them out of the 19 called players.
The other nine are all foreign-based players, some of whom participated in the qualifiers of the women’s Afro Basketball Zone V in February at Lugogo.
The ten Uganda-based players were picked from Clubs like JKL Lady Dolphins, UCU Lady Canons, and JT Jaguars.
The nine foreign-based players include Abby Priscilla, Jane Asinde, Claire Lamunu, Janon Otto, Lydia Babirye, Melissa Akullu, Maria Najjuma, Victoria Mukisa, and Jamilla Nansikombi.
The training is scheduled to kick off on Sunday, July 2, at the Africa Bible University and Lugogo Indoor Arena.
Then the team that makes it out of the 19 will travel to Kigali on July 15th this year, roughly after two weeks of training.
After making their debut in 1997 and The participating in the 2015 competition hosted in Cameroon, the gazelles will make their third appearance on the continent.
