With just three days remaining until the return of the Uganda Premier League, both fans and players of the newly promoted team, Mbarara City, can breathe a sigh of relief. This comes as Kakyeka Stadium has received the green light to host their home games.
Initially, in a letter dated September 7, 2023, the stadium had failed to secure approval following its first inspection due to significant issues that required urgent attention. However, the club spared no effort to ensure that the necessary improvements were completed before the start of the season.
The letter stated, “Referring to the initial inspection of Kakyeka Stadium conducted by the FUFA stadium inspection team, it was noted that there were significant issues that demanded immediate attention. Consequently, the stadium was initially deemed unfit to host matches for the StarTimes Uganda Premier League 2023/24 season, and the club was instructed to address the recommended developments by the Club Licensing Committee.”
It is worth noting that all the deficiencies identified during the initial inspection have now been rectified, leading to the stadium’s approval for hosting matches in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League for the 2023/24 season.
Emphasizing the importance of high-quality stadiums for the advancement of Ugandan football, the letter reiterated FUFA’s commitment to strict enforcement of regulations and compliance with requirements.
Mbarara City Football Club makes a triumphant return to the StarTimes Uganda Premier League after spending one year in relegation, during which they competed in the FUFA Big League for the 2022/23 campaign.
