In a grand celebration of 60 years of existence, the Kitaka 10’s rugby tournament is set to attract fans and athletes alike at the end of September 2023. This iconic event, known as the Kitaka 10-Aside international and invitational rugby tournament, has a rich history dating back to 2006 and 2007 when it was established in memory of the esteemed KOBs FC Patron and Chairman, Edward Kitaka.
Over the years, the tournament underwent a transformation, evolving into Kitaka 7s, and earned a spot as the climax of the Uganda Rugby Union 7s calendar. This year, however, the Kitaka 10’s is making a return to its roots, promising good rugby actions.
Scheduled for the 30th of September and the 1st of October 2023, the Legends Rugby Club will be the grounds where rugby teams will clash. The tournament will bring together five esteemed rugby clubs from Kenya and an impressive lineup of eleven rugby clubs from Uganda, all in for the main cup.
The ladies’ turn of the competition will see four teams engage in a round-robin tournament. The top two teams emerging from this action will earn their place in the ladies’ main cup final, adding a layer of excitement and gender equality to the event.
Earlier today, Dr. Stone Luggya, the Chairman of KOBs Rugby Club, joined forces with other valued partners to spearhead the launch of #Kitaka10s at Legends Rugby Club. Dr. Luggya shared his thoughts on the tournament, saying, “This celebration not only honors the club’s rich history but also provides an opportunity to give back to the fans of rugby, and what better way to do this than in the offseason.”
