In preparation for the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Uganda’s cricket team will host a Quadrangular Series featuring Namibia, Nepal, and the Netherlands. This announcement came during the Uganda Cricket Association’s Annual General Meeting held at Kati Kati Grounds, as revealed by Chairman Michael Nuwagaba.

The decision to host such a tournament on home soil was made by the Uganda Cricket Association to alleviate the expenses associated with international travel.

The Cricket Cranes have been gearing up for the T20 World Cup, having recently completed trips to India and Sri Lanka. However, their performance during these excursions has been mixed, with only two victories in India and none in Sri Lanka.

With an upcoming tournament at home and the chance to face three World Cup-bound teams, the Cricket Cranes hope to achieve confidence-boosting results. This tournament will serve as an ideal precursor to the global showpiece event.

Uganda is placed in Group C alongside Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, New Zealand, and co-hosts West Indies at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Netherlands and Nepal are in Group D alongside Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and South Africa, while Namibia is in Group B with Australia, England, Scotland, and Oman.

Before the World Cup, Uganda will make its debut in cricket at the African Games in March in Ghana.

Placed in Group A, the Cricket Cranes will compete against Kenya, South Africa, and the hosts, commencing their campaign against rivals Kenya on 17th March. The team is expected to field a youthful and competitive squad as they aim to leave their mark on the international stage.
