Ugandan long-distance runner, Victor Kiplangat, has expressed his readiness for the upcoming 2024 Tokyo Marathon, scheduled for Sunday, March 3rd.
In an interview with media outlet Xinhua, Kiplangat conveyed his confidence, stating that he has diligently prepared for the marathon under the guidance of Coach Addy Ruiter.
“I have undergone thorough training under Coach Addy Ruiter, and I am eager to demonstrate my capabilities at the Marathon in Japan,” remarked Kiplangat.
Having already secured qualification for the Paris Olympic Games set for July, Kiplangat views the Tokyo Marathon as an excellent opportunity to set the stage for the Olympics.
Kiplangat will represent Uganda as the sole participant in the Tokyo Marathon, facing off against a formidable field of elite runners, including the renowned Kenyan athlete Eliud Kipchoge, holder of the world record for the fastest marathon time.
Assisting Kiplangat in pacing will be his compatriot Abel Boniface Sikowo.
Among the notable contenders to watch out for are Vincent Kipkemoi Ngetich, Timothy Kiplagat, and Benson Kipruto from Kenya. Additionally, the Ethiopian trio of Hailemaryam Kiros, Andualem Belay, and Tsegaye Getachew will also vie for victory in the marathon.
