The Uganda Premier League Secretariat has changed the venue of the eagerly awaited Wakiso derby featuring Wakiso Giants Football Club and Vipers Sports Club.
The match, scheduled for Sunday, March 10th, 2024, will now take place at St. Mary’s Stadium instead of Kabaka Kyabaggu Sports Stadium, the home of Wakiso Giants Football Club.
This change came after Wakiso Giants Football Club formally requested the venue change, citing the opportunity to tap into the revenue generated at Vipers Sports Club matches held at St. Mary’s Stadium, as well as the larger number of fans associated with night matches.
Despite their preference for St. Mary’s Stadium as the venue for their home game against Vipers Sports Club, it has proven to be a challenging hunting ground for them.
In the five league encounters held at St. Mary’s Stadium between Wakiso Giants Football Club and Vipers Sports Club, the Purple Sharks have struggled to secure a victory. They have only managed to draw twice and suffered three losses.
In this season’s reverse fixture, Vipers Sports Club earned a strong 3-0 victory against Wakiso Giants Football Club. Yunus Sentamu netted a brace after Karim Watambala opened the scoring.
The Purple Sharks will be determined to turn the tables and seek revenge in front of what promises to be a lively crowd in their 6 pm kickoff against Vipers Sports Club at St. Mary’s Stadium on March 10th.
The game will be broadcast live on Sanyuka Prime.
