In the recent Montevideo HSBC Challenger Series, Uganda’s rugby sevens team secured a commendable sixth-place finish. The tournament saw Uganda battling it out in Pool C alongside Germany, Uruguay, and Papua New Guinea.
Uganda’s journey began with a promising start as they clinched a victory against Germany with a scoreline of 17-14 in their first game. They carried on their winning momentum by defeating Uruguay 26-21 in their second match. The team sealed their pool stage dominance with another win, this time against Papua New Guinea, finishing with a score of 22-17.
Moving forward to the semi-finals, Uganda faced a tough challenge against Kenya, resulting in a close defeat with a score of 07-05.
In the 5th Place play-off, the Uganda Sevens faced off against Germany. However, luck was not on their side as they narrowly lost the match with a score of 10-07.
The Uganda Sevens now stand at the eighth position in the overall challenger series standings. They trail behind Uruguay, Kenya, Chile, Germany, Hong Kong, Tonga, and Japan.
