The President of the Ghana Badminton Federation, Evans Yeboah, has found himself under scrutiny following revelations of subpar arrangements for Team Ghana’s participation in the All Africa Games held in Borteyman.
Team Ghana’s badminton player, Leslie Addo, disclosed that due to their regular bus breaking down en route to the competition venue, they were forced to resort to traveling on the back of a pickup truck to ensure they reached on time for their matches. Addo further lamented the lack of practice with their equipment prior to the games, attributing it to late equipment arrivals.
Despite assurances from the Local Organizing Committee, which reportedly secured over 336 vehicles for transportation needs during the games, including athlete conveyance, Team Ghana’s experience painted a different picture.
In response, Evans Yeboah defended the federation’s actions, citing the breakdown of their regular bus as an unforeseen circumstance. He claimed the pickup truck transport was an emergency measure taken by the coach to ensure the athletes’ timely arrival. Yeboah also mentioned hiring a psychologist to support the players emotionally.
However, despite these efforts, all of Ghana’s badminton players exited the competition early without securing any medals. This outcome has intensified criticism of the federation’s handling of preparation, raising questions about the adequacy of support provided to Ghanaian athletes on the international stage.
