FUFA Referees Manager Samuel W. Egesa has come out to defend Denis Omedi’s first goal for Kitara as rightfully awarded, amidst controversy online surrounding the decision. The goal has sparked heated debate on social media, with many criticizing the referees for the perceived poor decision, claiming Omedi was in an offside position.
Speaking live on FUFA TV, Egesa explained that URA goalkeeper Rogers Omedwa’s challenge for the ball towards Livin Kabon, who made the assist, put Omedi onside. Additionally, Omedi’s proactive movement towards the ball rather than waiting for it also contributed to his onside position.
During the post-match interview, URA FC coach David Obua insisted that the first and second goals were questionable, with only the third goal deemed legitimate.
This incident follows a similar controversy late last year, where Kitara was affected by a questionable goal decision. Following an investigation, the Referees Disciplinary Panel (RDP) imposed a six-month suspension on assistant referee Juma Osire, who disallowed a goal for Kitara FC against Vipers SC in a StarTimes Uganda Premier League game at St. Mary’s Stadium.
