Former FIFA referee Ali Tomusange, who still stands as the only Ugandan referee to ever officiate a game at the FIFA World Cup, has come out to give his opinion on Denis Omedi’s goal, which has caused a lot of social media buzz about whether it was the right call for it to stand . While appearing on NBS Inside Sports, hosted by Michael Kigozi every Monday from 10 PM, he was asked for his opinion on the goal, whether it was offside or not.
Ali stated that Omedi was definitely offside and the goal shouldn’t have stood. “Denis Omedi’s goal against URA should not have stood; he was definitely offside,” he said.
This comes days after FUFA, under their Referees Manager Samuel W. Egesa, came out to defend Denis Omedi’s first goal for Kitara against URA as rightfully awarded in a game Kitara won 3-0, while appearing on FUFA TV minutes after the game had ended.
Ali acknowledged the need for VAR in the country, which has helped lessen pressure for the referees and also minimize the errors happening during the games.
