While Uganda started off a bit slow in the first half, they rallied in the second half to clinch the win.

Coach Tolbert Onyango reflected on the challenging nature of the first game, stating, “Normally the first game of the tournament is difficult, trying to get off the blocks. We started a bit slow in the first half, but then we got it together in the second half. We take the win as a good start, and now onto Tunisia after some recovery.”

Isaac Masangazira, also known as the minister of defense, echoed Onyango’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of starting with a tough opponent like Zimbabwe.

He remarked, “The first games are never easy; it’s not a walk in the park. But we kept pushing until the 14th minute and got the win. We started a bit slow but picked up later in the game.”

Masangazira highlighted the significance of facing Zimbabwe early in the tournament, stating, “Starting with such an opponent gives us momentum for the next games. It was a perfect start for us today.”

Uganda will now shift their focus to their next match against Tunisia, the last game of the day. Looking ahead, they prepare for day two where they will face Burkina Faso and hosts Ghana in the 13th African Games.
