Buganda Kingdom Cycling Competition Commences

The 2024 Buganda Kingdom cyclizing competition commenced on Sunday, 14th April in Luwero with over 100 cyclists taking part. The competition draws both male and female riders from across the 18 Buganda kingdom counties competing in the mountain bike and ordinary bicycles.

On the first outing graced by the kingdom youths, sports and talent minister Robert Serwanga, the mountain bike riders competed in 120 and 60 kilometers for men and women respectively while ordinary bicycle riders competed in 30 and 90 kilometers in women and men respectively.

Beatrice Shanita from Bugerere and Davvis Biyinzika from Buddu County won the female and male bicycle race respectively while Bugerere’s Kevin Nakato and Bulemeezi’s Aziz Ssempijja won the female and male races respectively.

Overall, Buddu were the men bicycle and women mountain bike winners, Bugerere stood out in women bicycle race as Bulemeezi topped in men mountain bike category.

“Kabaka wants his youthful royalists to be given a chance to engage and compete in any talent they have. As the ministry, we shall organize several competitions in different disciplines to grow the talents of Kabaka’s subjects,” noted minister Serwanga.

The next outing is scheduled for 7th July in Singo and 8th in Ssese before heading to Buddu on 6th October. The grand final will be in Kyadondo starting at Lubiri in Mengo.
