The Speaker of parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among Magogo will inspect the renovation works at the Mandela national stadium in Namboole this Monday morning. The Speaker, in the company of the State minister for sports Hon. Peter Ogwang, selected legislators and FUFA officials led by the president Eng. Moses Magogo is expected to be accorded a guided tour by the contractors –UPDF engineering brigade. Recently, the Namboole stadium renovation debate has been part of the order paper during plenary parliamentary sessions with the speaker herself questioning the continued delays despite budgetary allocations. The visit was confirmed by Joseph Sabiti, the Principal Press Secretary to the Speaker. Last Thursday, minister Ogwang told parliament that the delays culminate from the fact that the Shs17bn balance of the Shs97bn allocated to the works was yet to be paid by the finance ministry. After being tasked by the Speaker to explain, the state minister for finance (planning) Amos Lugolobi confirmed on Friday that the money would be wired by this Monday. Uganda Cranes is set to host the next world cup qualifiers in June but CAF declined to clear the only national stadium for the next fixtures on grounds of lighting, technical bench, media tribunal, dressing rooms, stadium clock among others.
