The Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda (FMU) has confirmed the Federation’s elections for 1st May at the Kati Kati Restaurant in Lugogo.
Three candidates are in the race for the Presidency to replace Dipu Ruparelia, who did not seek re-election.
Former President George Kagimu, rally driver John Burrows Lumu and Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) President Jimmy Akena are the three confirmed presidential candidates for the elections.
Akena confirmed his candidature to NBS SPORT, saying that his priority will be to align the Federation with the new Sports Act.
“I have been following and we have worked on so many things together. I want to ensure that we conform with the new Act so that we can access government resources. By virtue of my position as a legislator I believe I am more suitable to oversee this process,” noted Akena.
The other positions to contest for include the Assistant General Secretary, Vice President, Deputy Vice President of motor rallying and cycling as well as Deputy Vice President touring, vintage and road safety.
Reynold Kibira, Arthur Blick and Joshua Mayanja are unopposed for the posts of General Secretary and Deputy Vice Presidents for cycling and motor rallying respectively.
Leila Mayanja, the FMU Secretary General confirmed that each member club will be represented by five delegates.
