Speaker Anitah Among has called upon Members of Parliament to attend the upcoming test games at the recently refurbished Mandela National Stadium, also known as Namboole Stadium.
The test matches, scheduled to be played on Wednesday May 1st between BUL and Vipers, as well as KCCA and SC Villa, aim to showcase the outcomes of the extensive renovations, estimated at Shs97 billion.
“Let us go and watch the test games and see where our money went,” stated Speaker Anitah Among on the floor of Parliament.
The renovation project, approved by Parliament in 2022 with a budget of 97 billion Ugandan Shillings, is reported to be nearing completion, with state minister Peter Ogwang indicating that the works are now 95% finalized.
In terms of the football standings, Vipers and BUL are currently tied on points at 46, with BUL having played one more game. Meanwhile, KCCA occupies the 6th position on the Startimes Uganda Premier League standings with 39 points, while SC Villa holds the 4th place with 45 points.
The test games are a requirement by CAF to assess the readiness of the grounds before gaining approval to host international games.
