The Uganda Cricket Association has announced that Soroti City will host the upcoming girls’ schools cricket tournament, scheduled to take place from May 5th to 11th.
Organized by Soroti Cricket Academy, the tournament will feature sixteen schools from various regions across Uganda. St. Mary’s Girls Secondary School Madera has been chosen as the venue for this tournament.
With schools from six different regions participating, the competition promises to be fierce. Among the contenders, Olila High School stands out, aiming to clinch their fourth consecutive title. However, they face stiff competition from schools like Light SS, Jinja SS, Masaka SS, and Ndejje SS.
Reflecting on the tournament’s history, past winners include powerhouse teams like Jinja SS, Gayaza HS, and Olila SS. Jinja SS leads with an impressive eight titles, showcasing their dominance in girls’ school cricket.
According to Uganda Cricket Association, the tournament not only serves as a platform for competitive cricket but also aims to promote and showcase the burgeoning talent of women cricketers in Uganda. Through initiatives like these, Uganda Cricket Association hopes to foster greater participation and interest in the sport among young girls across the country.
