Castle Lite Injects UGX 500 Million into National Basketball League

In a significant move for Ugandan basketball, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) has secured a major sponsorship deal with Nile Breweries Uganda, under their flagship brand, Castle Lite. The partnership, unveiled at Fairway Hotel Kampala, entails a staggering investment of half a billion Ugandan shillings, set to span one year.

Castle Lite’s sponsorship will serve as the official title sponsorship for both the male and female categories of the National Basketball League (NBL). Out of the total sum, 200 million shillings will be allocated to FUBA administration, while the remaining 300 million shillings will be directed towards operational costs and other league activities aimed at fostering growth within the sport.

Douglas Kalema, the Trade Marketing Executive of Nile Breweries Uganda, emphasized the company’s commitment to basketball by stating, “We’re going to be the title sponsors of the National Basketball League for one year and of course it’s renewable, 500m shillings is what we have injected.”

Marcus Kwikiriza, CEO of FUBA, expressed his gratitude for the partnership, highlighting the efforts involved in securing the deal. He emphasized the importance of building a strong fan base for clubs, underscoring the mutual benefits derived from such initiatives.

Hudson Ssegamwenge, Vice President of FUBA, hailed Castle Lite’s involvement as a significant milestone for Ugandan basketball. He reflected on the league’s humble beginnings in 1995 and expressed appreciation for Castle Lite’s support, acknowledging the challenges faced by clubs in the absence of sponsorship.
