MTN Uganda has launched the Cranes Cheerleader Campaign, a new initiative designed to infuse excitement into the country’s sporting journey. The campaign, running from May 24 to June 3, 2024, is themed “Uganda Fayaaa,” symbolizing a surge of new energy coinciding with the reopening of Namboole Stadium.
The launch event, held at MTN’s head offices in Kampala, was attended by numerous enthusiastic football fans. The occasion included a vibrant display of support with fans driving from Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, through Ntinda and Naalya roundabout, up to near Mandela National Stadium, and finally back to MTN headquarters.
MTN Uganda’s Chief Marketing Officer, Somdev Sen, explained the significance of the event for the national teams. “This campaign is more than just about cheering. It’s about uniting fans and players in a shared journey of passion and support for our national teams,” said Sen.
Fans at the launch welcomed the challenge enthusiastically, expressing their readiness to compete in the campaign.
The Cranes Cheerleader Campaign encourages individuals to become the top cheerleader for the Uganda Cranes and the Crested Cranes.
Participants are invited to post on social media a 2-minute video showcasing their best cheering for both the men’s and women’s national teams. The participants have to tag NBS Sport in their posts.
Three finalists will each receive prize money worth Ushs. 5 million, along with a renewable one-year cheerleading contract for both home and away games, and a performance allowance based on briefs commissioned by MTN.
The Uganda Cranes are set to host Botswana and Algeria in the World Cup Qualifiers in June.
