Namuwongo Blazers Basketball Club secured a decisive 70-53 victory against Our Savior to extend their lead in the men’s division of the 2024 National Basketball League.
The Blazers showcased superior performance across the board, particularly in rebounds and field goal percentage. They dominated the second and third quarters, outscoring Our Savior 20-12 and 21-6, respectively.
Our Savior managed to stay competitive in the first quarter, leading 21-16, but their momentum waned as the game progressed.
Pol Mas led Our Savior with 18 points and 9 rebounds, while Henry Ssebagala contributed 14 points, 6 rebounds, and 7 assists. Kenneth Mesho also added 9 rebounds.
Despite these individual efforts, Our Savior struggled to maintain their scoring efficiency, shooting just 27% from the field.
Namuwongo Blazers benefited from balanced contributions. Jimmy Williams stood out, scoring 20 points with 3 rebounds while Arthur Wanyoto recorded 6 points and 7 rebounds. Peter Cheng added 9 points and 11 rebounds, and Makiadi Micheal delivered 9 points and 12 rebounds.
Their superior teamwork was evident in their higher rebound count, totaling 59 compared to Our Savior’s 43, and their 38% field goal percentage.
The game was marked by strong defensive plays and notable turnovers from both teams. Our Savior had 18 turnovers, while Namuwongo Blazers committed 22.
However, the Blazers managed to capitalize on key moments, extending their lead and maintaining control until the final buzzer.
The Namblazers remain top of the standings with 33 points, however, they have played 4 more games than favourites City Oilers who are just 6 points behind.
Our Saviour, on the other hand, are seventh with 26 points and have lost 3 of their last 5 games.
