Alex Isabirye Clarifies 3-Year, Not 1-Year URA Contract

URA FC head coach Alex Isabirye has revealed that he has signed a three-year contract with the tax collectors, contradicting the club’s earlier statement that he had been appointed on a one-year deal.

The club had announced Isabirye’s appointment on May 20th, stating that he had penned a one-year contract.

However, the experienced tactician has now come out to clarify the details of his contract, insisting that it is, in fact, a three-year agreement.

“I don’t know why people say that I signed a contract of one year. I’m here for 3 years,” Isabirye said in an interview.

The coach explained that the longer contract duration will give him ample time to implement the changes he envisions for the team, which finished 8th in the previous StarTimes Uganda Premier League season.

“I can’t sign a contract of 1 year with URA yet we (URA) ended in 8th position last season,” Isabirye said. “I’m not a football professor to change things instantly. I need time.”

Isabirye stated that his primary focus for the upcoming season will be to address the players’ character and behavior, as he believes this has been a major hindrance to the team’s performance.

“We have a very good set of players who can do the job, but the problem is their character and behaviour on and off the pitch,” he revealed.

In preparation for the new season, Isabirye plans to use Saturday’s Nakivubo test match against Kitara as a benchmark to assess the readiness of his players.”I’m going to use the game on Saturday to see the players that are ready to compete next season,” he said.

URA faces Kitara tomorrow at the grand reopening of Nakivubo Stadium in one of the test football games that will kickoff at 4pm.
