Cody Rhodes, a prominent figure in WWE, is extending his legacy to a different wrestling arena by donating a wrestling ring to Soft Ground Wrestling (SGW) in Uganda. Known for its unique open dirt wrestling venue, SGW may soon see a transformation thanks to Rhodes.
Fresh off defending his WWE Universal Championship, Rhodes reached out to SGW with an offer to purchase a traditional wrestling ring for the promotion.
“One thing that we can universally bond on is our love for pro wrestling,” Rhodes stated. “With that said, you guys need a proper wrestling ring.”
Rhodes has enlisted a Ugandan resident to construct the ring, ensuring that SGW wrestlers can soon compete in a more conventional setting.
“It is on me,” Rhodes confirmed. “My gift to you. The wrestling business has literally given me everything in my life that I could possibly dream of, and I would just like to give something back to you guys, welcome you officially into this big wide world of pro wrestling.”
SGW, which stands for Soft Ground Wrestling, is gaining traction in the wrestling world. The promotion has previously attracted support from notable figures, including former WWE veterans Mase and Mansoor, who recently traveled to Uganda for a fundraising event. Additionally, AEW champion Will Ospreay has shown interest in making an appearance at SGW.
Rhodes will defend his undisputed WWE Championship against AJ Styles in an “I Quit” match this weekend.
