Tree Adoption Uganda (TAU), along with environmental conservationists, has successfully hosted the fourth edition of the Run 4 Climate Marathon at the hockey grounds in Lugogo. The event aims to raise awareness about tree planting and to restore the country’s lost forest cover.
Since its inception in 2019, the Run 4 Climate campaign has seen a growing number of participants, reflecting an increasing public interest in environmental conservation. This year’s event was graced by Her Excellency Etsegenet Yimenu, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Uganda, who highlighted the importance of Ethiopian community involvement in the marathon.
Dr. Charles Batte, Executive Director of TAU, expressed his delight at the significant turnout for this year’s edition. Diana Ondoga, Manager of Corporate Social Investment at Stanbic Bank, provided insights into the day’s events, underscoring the community’s engagement and enthusiasm.
Participants in the marathon competed in 1 km, 5 km, and 10 km races. Winners were awarded medals and certificates, with notable mentions including Mugasha James, the first-place winner of the 5 km race, and Victor Francis Tusingwire Katina, the second-place winner of the 10 km race. Both winners emphasized the importance of their participation in the event.
The funds raised from the marathon will support TAU’s goal of planting 100,000 trees, contributing significantly to environmental conservation efforts in Uganda.
