Defending champions SC Villa are set to lose another player before the 2024/25 season, as their midfielder Joseph Kafumbe is on the verge of leaving the club.
The 21-year-old is expected to depart the club after negotiations with the club over a contract extension reached a dead end.
This development comes as a significant setback for Villa, who are already grappling with the exits of key players in recent weeks, just after winning their 17th Uganda Premier League title.
The impending departure of Kafumbe will be the fourth high-profile exit from the club, following the exits of captain Kenneth Semakula, midfielder Abasi Kyeyune, and Umar Lutalo.
Semakula left the club after negotiations to renew his contract failed, while Kyeyune secured a lucrative four-year deal with Egyptian side Cleopatra Celemica. Lutalo, on the other hand, departed as a free agent upon the expiration of his contract.
Kafumbe, who joined SC Villa in the 2021/22 season, has been a key player for the club in the last three seasons, making 22 appearances in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League last season.
His ability to dictate the tempo of the game and provide a solid defensive shield has been instrumental to the team’s success. The defensive midfielder joined the Jogoos from KCCA FC and is a graduate of the KCCA Soccer Academy.
