FUFA President Moses Magogo has revealed plans to schedule more doubleheader games at the Mandela National Stadium in Namboole for the upcoming Startimes Uganda Premier League season.
According to Magogo, this follows the successful organization of similar games in the recent past, which highlighted the potential benefits of such a format for both clubs and fans.
“Whenever you package football in a good place and an organised environment, the fans will consume it. It was a lesson we picked when we organised the doubleheader matches at Namboole,” Magogo stated.
“Going into the next season we want to help clubs to organise such double header matches and give fans an experience,” he added.
In June, Uganda hosted a doubleheader against Botswana and Algeria as part of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Before this, the Startimes Uganda Premier League conducted test matches at Namboole, featuring BUL vs. Vipers and KCCA vs. SC Villa. These test games were instrumental in assessing Namboole’s readiness to host international fixtures.
Following the test matches, Namboole Stadium was provisionally licensed to host World Cup qualifiers. Magogo indicated that a full license will be granted once the stadium is officially handed over by the contractor upon the completion of ongoing renovation works.
