Masaza Cup: Buluuli Stuns Bulemeezi in Thrilling Opener

The 2024 Airtel Masaza Cup kicked off with a thrilling match as Buluuli secured a 1-0 victory over their rivals, Bulemeezi, at Kosovo Grounds on Saturday, June 22. Robert Ssewanyana’s decisive goal led Buluuli to a stunning win in front of a huge crowd.

Buluuli dominated the game, showcasing a strong midfield performance anchored by Muhammad Kanyike, who earned the Man of the Match title. This victory marks an optimistic start for Buluuli as they aim to replicate their 2011 Masaza Cup success, the last time they clinched the title.

Despite the home loss, Bulemeezi remains a formidable team, having won the tournament three times, with victories in 2012, 2019, and most recently in 2023. Their strong track record indicates they will be a team to watch as the tournament progresses.

This year marks the 20th edition of the Airtel Masaza Cup, a significant event in Buganda’s sports calendar that began in 2004. The tournament features 18 counties from the Buganda Kingdom, divided into three groups, and will run until October 26.

Next weekend’s fixtures on June 29, 2024, will see Buvuma face Mawokota, and Butambala play Buddu at Kibibi, promising more exciting action as the tournament continues.
