FIFA Chief Member Associations Officer Kenny Honore Jean Marie is in Uganda to oversee the three-day FIFA Football for Schools Programme, held at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. The event, which commenced on Sunday, June 23rd, aims to train 50 primary school games teachers in imparting basic football and life skills to pupils aged 4-14.
The programme was officially inaugurated by Sammy Odongo, the Assistant Commissioner of Physical Education and Sports in Uganda’s Ministry of Education and Sports. In his opening remarks, Odongo emphasized the importance of integrating sports into education to foster holistic development in young students.
“These teachers will not only learn football coaching techniques but also life skills that are crucial for the development of our children,” Odongo stated.
The participating teachers will become Trainers of Trainers, who will then pass on their newly acquired knowledge to other games teachers in their respective regions. This cascading model is designed to ensure a wide-reaching impact across the country’s primary schools.
The FIFA delegation accompanying Jean Marie includes FIFA Football for Schools Manager Antonio Buenano Sanchez, FIFA Technical Consultant Alberto Giacomini, and FIFA Associations Africa Regional Coordinator Sousa Silmara.
In addition to the training, FIFA has pledged to supply 66,260 footballs to primary schools throughout Uganda, providing essential resources to support the programme’s objectives.
