As the 2023/24 National Basketball League enters Gameweek 22, marking the final stretch before the playoffs, the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) is set to enhance the fan experience significantly.
This initiative comes on the heels of a substantial partnership with Castle Lite, which injected UGX 500 million into the league.
Marcus Kwikiriza, CEO of FUBA, discussed the federation’s ambitious plans with NBS Sport, highlighting the focus on revitalizing the entertainment aspect of basketball and broadening its appeal.
“One of the biggest goals in basketball is to try and make the game fun. Back in the day, it was about fun and entertainment. We want to attract as many non-basketball fans as possible. We’d lost that along the way,” Kwikiriza emphasized.
He explained that the goal is to have basketball venues become vibrant hubs for socializing and entertainment, even for those who may not be passionate about the sport.
“Even if you don’t love basketball, this could potentially be a place for you to hang out with friends, and have a good time,” he said.
Looking ahead to the playoffs, FUBA’s strategy is to maintain fan engagement throughout the games.
“The plan during playoffs is to keep fans engaged before, during, and after the games,” Kwikiriza explained.
In the women’s division, Kampala University have been relegated as they registered no win during the entire regular season. The men’s division will see Power and Ndejje Angels relegated.
