On July 5th, Wakiso Giants announced that John Luyinda’s two-year contract had expired, leading to his departure.
Luyinda joined Wakiso Giants in 2022, replacing Alex Gitta after the dismissal of Douglas Bamweyana.
Before his time at Wakiso Giants, Luyinda served as an assistant to Abdallah Mubiru at Police.
The Purple Sharks expressed gratitude for Luyinda’s contributions and wished him well in his future endeavors through their official social media platforms.
Steven Bengo, a former Uganda Cranes player with a CAF B coaching license, is reportedly the likely candidate to take over the head coach role at Wakiso Giants, marking his return. He previously worked with Wakiso Giants as a trainer.
He is reportedly set to be assisted by Tonny Mawejje, another former Uganda Cranes player, who is beginning his second coaching role after leaving Kampala Queens in the FUFA Women Super League.
Bengo’s coaching experience includes time with Bushenyi Veterans and Wembley.
