The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has called for the nomination of Safeguarding Officers for the FUFA Women Super League and FUFA Women Elite League.

According to FUFA, this initiative aligns with their commitment to protect individuals from harm or abuse through appropriate prevention and response measures.

Football, as the world’s most popular sport, significantly impacts millions of lives, promoting values such as respect, fairness, fun, inclusion, and team building. However, the sport also faces increasing risks of abuse, with potentially lifelong consequences for victims.

To combat these risks, FUFA is urging clubs to nominate individuals who will be responsible for ensuring a safe environment for female footballers.

These Safeguarding Officers will implement safeguarding policies and procedures, report any concerns or incidents, provide support and guidance to players, staff, and officials, and collaborate with FUFA to ensure compliance.

Each club must nominate a suitable candidate and submit their information to FUFA by Friday, July 19, 2024, via [email protected].

The nominated officers will undergo training conducted by FIFA-certified trainers Sarah Birungi and Phiona Nsubuga Namutebi.

FUFA say that the goal is to create a safer and more supportive environment for female footballers, addressing the various forms of abuse, including physical, sexual, emotional abuse, neglect, trafficking, and exploitation.
