The Gazelles have had a successful high performance training camp in Germany and head coach Goran Lojo is optimistic about the future.
Uganda’s national basketball team who were playing against European opposition for the first time managed to defeat the Republic of Ireland twice.
“Today we had a better opening of the game and we controlled proceedings from the start to the end,” Lojo spoke to the team’s media team after the second victory over Ireland on Monday.
“We had the lead throughout although we did not have a chance for the players on the bench to have some minutes.”
“The result could have been even had more scores but it is visible that we are improving in every practice and game and I am happy about the performance,” he added.
The Gazelles defeated the Republic of Ireland 71-56 on Monday in addition to the 82-69 victory on Sunday.
“I will give tips to the players at the end of the camp on what they should do until we meet again and hopefully when I see them again they will have used the time between now and then positively,” the Bosnian noted.
“But one thing for sure is that I am certain about the future and I know that the girls will keep improving.”
Reports coming in from Germany indicate that there are negotiations between Uganda and Nigeria to play a friendly game.
Nigeria are also camping in Germany as they prepare to play at the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The Gazelles were invited by German Bundesliga outfit FC Nottingen and their 10-day invitation will expire on Thursday, July 25.
As the players return to their respective clubs, focus will be on the 2025 AfroBasket qualifiers in February next year.
