Manchester United Supporters’ Club successfully conducted their maiden annual general meeting at Tales Lounge in Bukoto on Saturday, July 27.
There is a variety of other Manchester United fan clubs around the country, but this group are officially recognized by the Red Devils for their affiliation with the English Premier League giants.
Speaking at the convention, the Chairman of Uganda’s Manchester United Supporters’ Club, David Asaba Bashiisha stated how far they have come and what they are looking forward to.
“This started as an idea of a few colleagues and I am excited that today we have convened for our first AGM,” Bashiisha told NBS Sport before adding.
“We are all passionate Manchester United fans. That is why we call ourselves the diehards, and that shows the strong attachment we have to the club.”
“Now that we are officially recognized, we want to support the club directly, for example, through buying customized merchandise.”
“It’s a Ugandan Manchester United Supporter Club; therefore, the effort is to stretch the wings countrywide, and I am confident that we shall achieve it with this determined group of colleagues,” he added.
This Untied’s Supporter Club started in 2018, and six years down the road, they have managed to lay strong strategies for sustainability, as the treasurer, Doreen Donah Atwine, explains.
“For anything to grow and develop, it requires financial support, and what we are doing amongst ourselves is to put up the finances to push forward our endeavours”
“We are not here to make any profits, we are just driven by passion and love for our club and the bond and trust that we’ve built has brought us this far because there is inclusivity,” she explained.
Meanwhile, visiting Old Trafford is every Manchester United fan’s dream and Paulian Kazibwe has been lucky enough to have been at the Theatre of Dreams.
During their submission, the Rwanda auditor noted how important it is for the Ugandan Manchester United Supporters Club to make a trip to England and at least watch a game at famous Old Trafford as a group.
“I am personally pleased that I have been to Old Trafford before and that experience is thrilling, inspiring, and exciting.”
“As we plan to grow as a group, visiting Old Trafford should be top of the agenda and I am optimistic we shall see to it that everyone can have a feel of the amazing atmosphere,” Paulian submitted.
Despite having their poorest season in the history of the club finishing eighth in the Premier League last season, Erik ten Hag’s charges managed to beat rivals Manchester City to the Emirates FA Cup.
They have so far signed two players, striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro, anticipating a better 2024/25 campaign.
During the new season, they’ll be gathering at Tales Lounge to always watch their team in action, and they hope to register more than 100 new fans for 100 dollars as membership fee.
