The FUFA TV Cup returns this weekend with the Round of 16 fixtures set to take place on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3.
The first legs of the traditional schools football tournament will be played this weekend, as teams battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Mengo Senior School, who reached the Round of 16 by overcoming Makerere College 2-1 at home after a goalless first leg, will face Kibuli SS who earned their spot by defeating Old Kampala SS 2-1 in the Round of 32.
The first leg of the clash will played at Mengo SS, and both teams are from the Kampala Chapter.
Ngora High School, which thrashed Nabumali HS 7-1 on aggregate in the Round of 32, will face Sebei College Tegeres in the Elgon Chapter clash.
Sebei College reached the Round of 16 by coming from behind after a 2-1 first-leg loss to beat St. Peter’s College Tororo 3-1 in the second leg, progressing on a 4-3 aggregate.
Lango College, who advanced past Comboni College with a 2-1 aggregate win in the Round of 32 will now play against St. Joseph’s College Layibi, who narrowly beat Gulu High School 3-2 on aggregate in the Luo Chapter clash.
The Western Chapter Round of 16 clash will see Nganwa High School from Sheema take on Mutolere SS from Kisoro.
Masaka SS from the Buganda Masaka Chapter, who edged Kako SS 3-2 on aggregate in the Round of 32, will face Mpanga SSS from the Rwenzori Chapter. This matchup will feature teams from different chapters.
Mpanga progressed to the Round of 16 by defeating St. Leo’s College Kyegobe 2-1 on aggregate in the Round of 32.
Another matchup between teams of different chapters will feature Gombe SS from Buganda facing off against Namilyango College of East Buganda Chapter.
Gombe secured their Last 16 spot after a goalless home draw against St. Balikuddembe Mitala Maria, their 1-1 away draw progressing them on the away goals rule, while Namilyango also advanced on away goals after a 4-4 aggregate tie with St. Joseph Naggalama.
Jinja College, who defeated Busoga College Mwiri 3-0 on aggregate in the Round of 32, will face Jinja SSS, who edged out Kiira College Butiki, in the Busoga Chapter round of 16 tie.
Another inter-chapter clash will see Kabalega SS from Bunyoro, which dominated St. Edward Bukuumi with a 4-1 aggregate win in the Round of 32, take on St. Charles Lwanga from Koboko.
St. Charles progressed to the round of 16 on away goals against Mvara SS, after both sides tied 2-2 on aggregate.
This year’s FUFA TV Cup will see new champions crowned, as the inaugural champions, St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK), were knocked out in the Round of 64 by St. Balikuddembe Mitala Maria.
After home and after Round of 16 matches, the quarterfinals will be played at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, starting on August 28.
