Ugandan athletes competing at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games have an additional incentive to bring home medals.
Hon. Peter Ogwang, the Minister of State for Sports, announced that Ugandan medalists will receive unprecedented cash rewards from the Ministry of Education and Sports, distributed through the National Council of Sports.
During his visit to the Team Uganda camp at the Games Village, Hon. Ogwang revealed the significant prize money allocated for medal winners.
Gold medalists will receive UGX 100 million each, silver medalists will be awarded UGX 50 million, and bronze medalists will take home UGX 30 million. This is the largest financial reward for Ugandan athletes in the nation’s history.
25 Athletes are representing the country in four disciplines including athletics, rowing, swimming and cycling, at the tournament that kicked off on Friday, July 26th.
These incentives aim to encourage and support Ugandan athletes in their quest for Olympic glory.
