StarTimes Uganda Premier League side Kitara continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
Midfielder Ivan Sserubiri is the latest player to join Kitara as usual signing a one-year contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.
The Royals are arguably the most busy club in Uganda in the ongoing transfer window where they have already added seven new players.
Amongst the recruits, Sserubiri, David Ndihabwe, Titus Ssematimba, and Marvin Nnyanzi are midfielders.
The above stipulates that improving the middle of the park is largely head coach Brian Ssenyondo’s area of focus.
Striker Fred Amaku and defenders Ronald Otti and Douglas Oyirwoth are the other new players at Kitara so far.
Meanwhile, Paul Mucureezi is the only notable name that has exited the club and has since joined NEC a side Kitara edged 1-0 to win the 2024 Stanbic Uganda Cup.
Sserubiri has played for URA, Villa, and Gaddafi in the UPL previously; the latter were relegated to the FUFA Big League last season.
The Hoima-based outfit has had good preparation for the upcoming season thus far.
After defeating Ethiopian side Mechal 2-0 in an international friendly match, the Stanbic Uganda Cup winners kicked off their FUFA Super 8 with a 1-0 win over KCCA in the first leg at Lugogo on Saturday, courtesy of Dennis Omedi’s lone strike.
It’s the Uganda Cranes forward that bagged a brace against Mechal as well.
The return leg will be played at the same venue on Tuesday, August 6 with a place in the semifinals at stake.
Brian Ssenyondo and his charges will surely give the Super 8 a shot as they aim to add a second trophy to their cabinet but continental football awaits for the maiden time.
Cranes striker Muhammad Shaban’s Al Hilal Benghazi will be the Royals’ opponent in the first round of the preliminaries of the CAF Confederation Cup.
Both legs of this tie will be played at Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi, Libya, home to Al Hilal because Mandela National Stadium, Namboole and St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, are not available for use during that period.
Kitara will play as hosts in the first leg on Friday, August 16 before the second leg a week later.
