The Rwenzori Marathon is gearing up for its third edition, scheduled to take place on August 24, 2024, in Kasese. This year, the marathon continues to emphasize its growing international presence and unique features.
Amos Wekesa, one of the event organizers, highlighted the marathon’s rapid growth.
“This year, we expect participants from 30 countries, making it a truly global event,” he said. The event has seen significant growth, expanding from 800 runners from four countries in its first edition to 2,200 runners from 17 countries last year.
The Rwenzori Marathon stands out as the only marathon in the world that starts and crosses the equator. The route runs through the scenic Queen Elizabeth National Park, known for its rich biodiversity.
Runners will experience breathtaking views of Lake George and the Rwenzori mountain range, which includes five of Africa’s ten highest peaks.
Toyota has continued its partnership with the Rwenzori Marathon for the second consecutive year. Toyota by CFAO will once again serve as the official mobility partner, providing two hybrid electric cars: the Corolla Hybrid Electric and the RAV4 Hybrid Electric.
These vehicles, combining gasoline and electric power, significantly reduce emissions, aligning with the marathon’s environmental goals. “This year, they are proud to provide two lead cars for the 42 km and 21 km races, which will take place on August 24th,” said Isaac Tegule.
In addition to promoting hybrid technology, Toyota aims to use the Rwenzori Marathon as a platform for fostering talent development and educating the public about the benefits of hybrid vehicles.
