Uganda Rugby Cranes captain Ivan Magomu was summoned before the Uganda Rugby Union Disciplinary Committee on August 5th to address two charges: abuse of match officials and bringing the sport into disrepute following his comments regarding Dr. Bernard Ogwel.
On August 12th, during an appearance on Sport This Evening, Magomu’s lawyer, Timothy Kajja, revealed that they were expecting the ruling by 7 p.m. on Monday, August 5th, but it was delayed.
“We were informed at midday today that the ruling would be delivered by 7 p.m., but that hasn’t happened,” Kajja stated.
Regarding the charges, Kajja suggested there may be a hidden agenda.
On the first charge of abusing a match official, Kajja argued that, according to the law, the case should have been brought forward within 48 hours, and the individual charged within two weeks.
However, in Magomu’s case, the charge was brought four weeks after the incident.
Kajja also expressed his dissatisfaction with the disciplinary panel, stating, “You cannot have someone who is going to be the prosecutor also serve on the panel.”
Should the ruling not be in their favour, the Ivan Magomu camp has declared they are prepared to appeal the decision through all possible channels.
