CAF CL: The Dust Has Been Settled On Villa-Namboole Dilemma

Pastor Bugingo to Host Prayers at Namboole Stadium

In 2020, the stadium was blacklisted from hosting football matches due to a substandard state.

After a day or so of jeopardy, SC Villa and the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole contractors have reached a consensus.

The above verdict means that Villa will host their CAF Champions League preliminary round game against Commercial Bank of Ethiopia at the facility on Saturday, August 17.

“We have concluded a long meeting where we had several discussions with the management of the stadium,” Villa Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Willam Nkemba told the media at Namboole on Wednesday.

“We have come to terms that our game against CBE will be hosted at Namboole on Saturday. The game will kick off at 4pm as earlier scheduled by CAF,” Nkemba noted.

Alongside Kitara, Villa was initially not successful in their request to host their continental games at Namboole but the latter appealed the decision as the former sought asylum in Libya.

Villa were then granted the opportunity to host from Namboole however, the UPDF Engineering Brigade who are the contractors later stated that the stadium was not available for use.

This called for the intervention of the state minister for sports Peter Ogwang who initiated a meeting between the two parties on Wednesday to find a solution.

Villa president Umar Mandela was part of the top officials that attended a meeting, a clear indication of crucial and significant it was.

Indeed the meeting has yielded dividends and Villa fans should brace themselves to watch their club returning to the Champions League since 2005.
