UCU Canons have advanced to semifinals of the 2024 Castle Light National Basketball League playoffs courtesy of a comfortable victory over KCCA Panthers.
The Mukono-based outfit thumped the Panthers 82-52 in the decisive game of the best of three series at the Lugogo Arena on Wednesday evening.
Canons won the first game of the series before Panthers forced a decider in the second game and from the onset of the third game, the former were relentless looking to avoid any shocking exit.
However, it will not be a walk in the park as it was tonight for the Canons in the semifinals. They have booked a date with the record champions City Oilers.
And speaking to NBS Sport in the aftermath of the game, Canons’ head coach Nick Nituhereza was quick to highlight the need to double their efforts.
“Today’s game is already behind us and focus shifts to the next game and we know the kind of opposition we are going to come up against.”
“It will be a good game I am certain but we shall need to be beyond our peak if we are to have any chances of eliminating City Oilers,” Natuhereza noted.
It should be noted that all the other quarterfinals, regardless of the category, were decided after two game besides Canons against Panthers.
The semifinals of the best of five series playoffs will commence on Thursday, August 15 with two games at Lugogo.
UCU Lady Canons will battle KIU Rangers in the women’s category at 7pm before a final before the final between Namuwongo Blazers and KIU Titans in the men’s category at 9pm.
