A 14-year-old Ugandan tennis prodigy, Cillian Asante Ndilima, is set to embark on a journey to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional tennis player.
The young star, currently a student at 7 Hills International Academy, has been making waves in the tennis circuit both nationally and across Africa.
He is now set to fly to Florida over the weekend to join a tennis academy that promises extensive training and exposure to international tournaments.
Collins Bongomin, Head of Marketing at the thx 22 Foundation, lauded the young athlete for his impressive performance and high ranking, placing him among the top 20 in Africa for the under-14 category.
The foundation has expressed its commitment to supporting Ndilima’s journey to professional tennis.
Cedric Babu Ndilima, the former president of the Uganda Tennis Association and Asante’s father, shared his immense pride in seeing his son follow in his footsteps.
Speaking at a press conference held at Emin Pasha Hotel in Nakasero, Ndilima expressed his joy and optimism for his son’s future.
Renowned sports figure, William Frederick Blick, an executive member of the International Olympic Committee, also graced the occasion.
While congratulating Ndilima, Blick emphasized the need for a robust support system for young athletes in Uganda.
“We have a wealth of talent in this country, but we lack the infrastructure to nurture it,” he remarked.
Asante himself couldn’t contain his excitement about the upcoming chapter in his life.
“This is a huge step for me,” Asante said, “I believe this academy will provide the perfect environment to develop my skills and prepare me for a professional career.”
The young tennis star’s departure marks a significant milestone for Ugandan sports. Asante’s success will inspire other young athletes and ignite a new wave of talent in the country.
