The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has imposed a five-year suspension on basketball player Edrine Walujo following allegations of match-fixing and betting.
The suspension, announced in a statement today, comes after an incident during the FIBA 3X3 Nations League on August 6th, 2024.
Walujo was arrested in Jinja and is currently detained at the Jinja Road Police Station under Police File No. CRB/734/2024. Although investigations are still ongoing, formal charges have already been brought against the player.
FUBA’s Executive Committee referred the case to its Competition Council, which conducted a disciplinary hearing.
During the hearing, evidence was reviewed, including testimonies from Walujo and the Benin national team delegation. Based on the findings, the Disciplinary Committee recommended severe sanctions.
As per Section 7.04(f) of the FUBA Competition Rules and Regulations 2024, Walujo has been banned from participating in any FUBA-sanctioned events for five years. The suspension is comprehensive, barring him from any involvement in FUBA activities, whether as a player, fan, or administrator for any affiliated club.
The suspension takes effect immediately as of August 19th, 2024.
