On August 18, 2024, URA defender Hudu Mulikyi issued a public apology to URA’s management, technical team, and the FUFA judicial body for his actions that he says not only impacted him personally but also placed the club in a challenging situation and brought the game into disrepute.
Mulikyi had reportedly committed to joining KCCA as a free agent. However, it was later confirmed that he is under a binding contract with URA until 2026.
In his statement, Mulikyi said: “I extend my sincerest apologies to the URA FC management, technical team, and the FUFA judicial body for my recent actions in regard to the existing contract between me and my club. My actions not only affected me but put the club in a difficult position and the game into disrepute. I fully acknowledge my mistake. I deeply regret any inconvenience and negative impact my actions may have caused. However, I remain committed to working diligently and serving the club to the best of my abilities. I appreciate the opportunity to make amends and contribute positively to URA FC. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
Mulikyi has been with URA since joining from Maroons in 2017 and is one of the longest-serving players at the club.
After publications surfaced on May 28, 2024, about his move to KCCA, URA clarified the next day that Mulikyi’s contract with them is valid until 2026 and no agreements had been made for his transfer to KCCA or any other club.
The URA management statement read: “It has come to our attention that there are circulating rumors and speculations about our esteemed utility player, Hudu Mulikyi, potentially joining KCCA FC. We would like to categorically refute these claims and set the record straight. Hudu Mulikyi remains a vital part of URA FC, and we are proud to have him as part of our squad. Mulikyi has a binding contract with URA FC that extends until 2026. There have been no discussions, agreements, or plans to transfer him to KCCA FC or any other club currently and he is currently part of our team preparing for a test match for Nakivubo Stadium Grand opening on Saturday 1st June 2024 against Kitara FC. URA FC values the commitment and dedication Hudu has shown to the club, and we look forward to achieving more milestones together in the coming years. We urge our fans and the public to disregard these baseless rumors and continue to support the team and our players. For any official updates regarding player transfers and other club activities, please refer to our official communication channels. Thank you for your unwavering support.”
