The Uganda Rugby Union (URU) is rallying for support to ensure its Women’s U20 team is well-prepared for their historic debut in the inaugural African Series in Cape Town, South Africa.
The tournament, scheduled to take place from September 25th to October 8th, 2024, marks a significant milestone for women’s rugby in Uganda.
URU said they received an invitation to participate in the series based on the growth and development of women’s rugby in the country.
However, the team faces challenges in securing the necessary funding to cover essential costs such as passports, boots, gear, and other personal effects.
To address this, URU has launched a U20 Harambee, a fundraising initiative aimed at garnering support from corporate partners, stakeholders, and individual fans.
The union is emphasizing the importance of collective support in ensuring the success of the team.
“Our vision is to create a sustainable model where every member of the rugby community can contribute to the growth and success of our U20 teams,” said Isaac Nsubuga Lutwama, Chief Executive Officer of URU.
“We believe that the strength of these youth teams lies in the collective support of the rugby community.”
Participation in the African Series presents a unique opportunity for Ugandan women’s rugby players to showcase their talent and potential on the international stage.
Contributions can be made through the payment platforms communicated on URU’s official social media pages.
