Pirates and Avengers were once again the winners of the third Rugby 7s circuit held at Kyadondo over the weekend.
Heading into the Kyadondo 7s, Pirates and Avengers had won the Mbale 7s in the men’s and women’s categories, respectively.
Interestingly, both Pirates and Avengers came up against the same opponents, Heathens and Black Pearls, respectively, as it was in Mbale a week ago.
Pirates needed a 17-12 victory to topple Heathens whereas Avengers defeated Black Pearls 21-12.
Not only did the Pirates win their second straight 7s title at the expense of Heathens this year, but they also avenged the latter, who defeated them in last year’s Kyadondo 7s final.
Kobs’ Ian Munyani was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the men’s category whilst Avengers’ Peace Lekuru took the same in women.
Besides Pirates and Avengers, Rhinos and Black Pearls are the other teams that have been victorious so far having won the Entebbe 7s.
The circuit will take a fortnight’s break and return on Saturday, September 7 for the Gulu 7s.
