Deco Mutebi Receives UGX 22 Million Boost for Uganda Professionals Open

Herman “Deco” Mutebi, a rising star in Ugandan golf, has secured a significant sponsorship deal with The Aviator Africa and NuMax Cinemas to support his participation in the upcoming 19th Johnnie Walker Uganda Professionals Open.

The partnership will see Mutebi receive UGX 22 million (approximately USD 6,000) to cover expenses associated with the tournament.

This strategic collaboration aims to empower Mutebi as he competes in the prestigious Open, held at the Entebbe Golf Club from September 2nd to 8th, 2024.

The sponsorship package will cover a variety of costs, including apparel and equipment, green fees, accommodation, food, caddie fees, travel, promotional materials, media management, and a performance bonus.

Mutebi expressed his deep gratitude for the support, stating, “I’m incredibly grateful for The Aviator Africa and NuMax Cinemas. This partnership allows me to focus on my game and perform at my best. I’ve been practising rigorously and achieving impressive scores. Now, with this sponsorship, I can truly dedicate myself to the course.”

He aspires to follow in the footsteps of Uganda’s leading professional golfer, Ronald Rugumayo and even plans to wear Tiger Woods’ signature colours – white, blue, black, and red – throughout the Open.

Vincent Mupenzi, Managing Editor of The Aviator Africa (also representing NuMax Cinemas), shared his enthusiasm, saying, “We’re thrilled to be a part of Deco’s journey. At The Aviator Africa, we champion local talent and empower athletes to reach their full potential. Deco’s dedication and passion for golf perfectly align with our values.”

Innocent Ndawula, Mutebi’s manager, called the sponsorship a significant milestone.

“We’re incredibly thankful for The Aviator Africa and NuMax Cinemas’ confidence in Deco. This partnership goes beyond financial support – it inspires him to achieve greatness. We hope this awakens other institutions to support local talent in golf and other disciplines,” he said.

Born in Entebbe in 1999, Mutebi began his golf journey in 2009 and turned professional in 2019.

He currently ranks 5th among Ugandan professional players and boasts a successful record, making 16 professional cuts out of 25 events.

Known for his exceptional driving range, fairway accuracy, and putting prowess, Mutebi has several past achievements, including winning the 2015 East African Challenge and the 2016 Entebbe Ladies Golf Open.
