The climax of the ninth edition of the Chaapa League is set for Saturday, September 21st at the Coffee Grounds in Bugoloobi.
Chaapa League belongs to the Old Students Association of Mbarara High School and impacting on Uganda’s topflight football is one of their ambitions.
“We have grown in stature and we have players whose dreams are to become professional footballers especially the young players,” the eighth and ninth editions’ chairman Jacob Kabigumira said in a press conference at Kabira Country Club on Saturday.
“Hopefully they can be scouted to different teams in Uganda and also don’t be surprised when you see Chaapa FC in the top tier one day,” he noted.
Rwiizi FC have already clinched this season’s title and will be presented with their Chaapa Shield on Saturday next week.
The grand finale will be graced by eight teams which are; Mutakoha, Karasande, Kaataara, Yobo Yobo, 99 Dyanamos, Dingiswayo, Chogm, and Msamiati.
One of the above eight teams will dethrone Matu who won their first edition last year.
Chaapa League has not only enabled networking but has also had an impact on the community through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
“Last season we partnered with Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) and planted trees at the school and also fundraised for the rebuilding of Addis dormitory which caught fire,” Kabigumira said.
Blood donation through health camps is the other way Chaapa continues to leave a mark on the society.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP), Top Scorer, Best Defender and other individual awards will be given out on the final day.
Medals that will go to the champions, runners up, and first runners up will be customised.
