A group of construction workers employed on the Hoima Multipurpose Stadium project have accused their employer, Summa Construction Company, of mistreatment and exploitation.
The workers, many of whom are locals, claim they are facing poor working conditions, inadequate wages, and a lack of basic benefits.
According to sources who spoke to Hoima-based Spice FM, workers on the site are subjected to dangerous conditions without proper safety equipment.
They allege that they are not provided with regular meals, medical coverage, or transportation to and from work.
Additionally, the workers claim they are receiving significantly lower wages than their colleagues from other areas, including those from outside of Uganda.
Joseph Aheebwa, the Human Resources officer for Summa Construction Company, denied these allegations.
However, Hoima City Mayor Brian Kaboyo promised to investigate the matter and gather more information.
The Hoima Multipurpose Stadium project is expected to be a significant boost to the local economy and provide recreational facilities for the community.
