A growing number of Premier League clubs are reportedly expressing concerns over Arsenal’s perceived use of “dark arts” tactics during matches.
The complaints, reportedly lodged with the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), highlight Arsenal’s defensive style of play and alleged time-wasting tactics.
Arsenal’s recent encounters have seen them face criticism for their approach.
Incidents such as Leandro Trossard’s red card for delaying the restart against Manchester City and Declan Rice’s controversial dismissal in the North London Derby have fueled these concerns.
Manchester City defender John Stones took a swipe at Arsenal’s tactics after his 98th-minute equaliser denied their title rivals a first Premier League win at the Etihad Stadium since 2015.
“They’ve done it for a few years and we know to expect that,” he said. “You can call it clever or dirty but they break up the game and it upsets the rhythm for everyone.”
His teammate, Bernardo Silva went further, accusing Arsenal of spoiling the game, time-wasting and deliberately injuring City midfielder Rodri, who suffered a serious knee injury in an off the ball incident.
Fans and pundits alike have debated the merits of Arsenal’s tactics. While some argue that these strategies are necessary for securing results, others contend that they are unsportsmanlike and detrimental to the game.
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
