Sports Principal Secretary Eng. Peter Tum has called on sporting federations in Kenya to urgently reform their governance structures to ensure the future of Kenyan sports.
Speaking at the closing of the National Olympic Sports Workshop in Sagana, Tum emphasized the importance of ethical leadership and accountability in fostering a supportive environment for athletes to excel on the international stage.
The 3-day workshop focused on key areas such as governance, athlete welfare, talent identification, and preparations for upcoming competitions, including the Olympic Games.
PS Tum highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between federations, the Ministry of Sports, and private sector sponsors to secure sustainable funding and develop a comprehensive national roadmap for athlete preparation.
“The journey we started here does not end today,” he said. “Each federation must take the lead in driving these reforms.”
One of the significant outcomes of the workshop was the development of a national roadmap aimed at preparing Kenyan athletes for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Eng. Tum outlined plans for targeted support in key sports disciplines and the establishment of training academies to enhance athlete performance.
The workshop served as a platform for stakeholders to discuss the challenges facing Kenyan sports and explore potential solutions.
